Five Wheelchair-Accessible Timeshare Resorts
Mexico is home to some of the most desirable vacation destinations in the world. From Cabo San Lucas and Nuevo Vallarta on the Pacific coast to Cancun and the Yucatan on the Gulf of Mexico, there are plenty of destinations from which to choose.
Resorts and lodging options in Mexico have improved accessibility levels in recent years to attract more tourism. While there is still room for improvement when compared to the US, Canada and Western Europe, there are ample choices for desirable disabled-friendly accommodations
Travelers who enjoy vacationing in Mexico annually or more frequently may consider the option of renting or buying wheelchair-friendly timeshare accommodations. Current timeshare owners in other destinations can utilize resort exchange services like Resort Condominiums International and Interval International to visit accessible resorts in Mexico.
The following five timeshare resorts are options to consider for your vacation, based on the availability of accessible accommodations, location, amenities and services. When making reservations, contact your chosen resort directly to discuss your accessibility requirements to ensure all your needs are met.
Isla Aguada Freedom Shores
This resort was built from the ground up to be wheelchair friendly. Founded by a military veteran, Isla Aguada Freedom Shores has on-site caregivers, roll-in showers, chauffeured taxis, and a wheelchair accessible deck/dive boat for scuba diving. The location is about five minutes away from the lagoon’s "Sea Shell Island," which is home to thousands of beautiful seashells.
Cabo San Lucas
Cabo Villas Beach Resort
The Cabo Villas Beach Resort is known for its breathtaking views of the Sea of Cortez and its romantic swimmable beach. Most other resorts in Cabo do not have swimmable beaches. There is a full-service spa, salon, infinity pool and Jacuzzi all on-site. This resort is wheelchair friendly and an excellent choice for family or friends looking to experience Mexico.
Paradise Village Beach Resort and Spa
This massive, five-star resort is located right on the beach just 15 minutes away from the airport. Guests enjoy eight on-site restaurants and a variety of activities ranging from horseback riding and sailing journeys to fishing tours and parasailing. This resort offers a variety of different room types for wheelchair travelers.
The Royal Islander
This beach resort offers handicapped-accessible accommodations and is a perfect choice for a relaxing trip with the family. Ancient Mayan temples are nearby for the sightseeing bunch, while those who prefer to stay at the resort can lounge at one of the pools or partake in the resort's many amenities. Solo travelers or young couples looking for a romantic getaway may opt for a less family oriented resort than The Royal Islander.
Hotel El Castellano
Hotel El Castellano is a wheelchair-friendly timeshare resort in the heart of Mérida. It is located by Mérida’s main square and the beautiful 16th century cathedral. Amenities include fitness center, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, and meeting rooms.
In addition to these vacation destinations, you will find other accessible resorts in Mexico by contacting your travel agent or searching online travel sites. For more information on wheelchair accessible travel, see the article links listed below.
