Wheelchair Elbow Protectors
Wheelchair elbow protectors or guards may be extremely helpful to those who are prone to sores and scrapes. Designed to relieve pressure from armrest and other contact points without restricting movement, elbow protectors are made from a variety of materials including sheepskin wool, polyester pile (a form of synthetic sheepskin), foam padding, and molded foam products.
Look for guards that provide good ventilation on both sides to promote air circulation and healing. Make sure the protectors you choose will stay securely positioned without slippage and allow you to easily move your joints without constriction.
Manufactures have different fastening systems that enable you to make adjustments to achieve a comfortable, secure fit. Some types feature velcro fastenings while others have hook and loop closures to create a firm fit.
Other attributes to consider include whether your protectors can be machine washed and dried. Also check to see if medication can be applied to the pad when needed.
