Wheel Chair Carrier Models

A wheel chair carrier is a practical way to take your mobility chair along in a car, van or truck. Properly installed, a carrier will cause no damage or loss of value to your vehicle, and may even be installed on leased vehicles.

There are four different carrier models:

  • An automatic car-top carrier operates with switches and features a motor-driven hoist. Before purchasing this type of carrier, your car roof must be able to accommodate both its size and weight.

  • A bumper-mounted carrier for a manual wheel chair may require drilling a couple of holes into the bumper, which can be filled in later if the carrier is removed. Most of these carriers can be removed easily to access the trunk.

  • A hitch-mounted carrier tips down to load the mobility chair and can be simply moved back into place and locked.

  • The pick-up carrier is used with pickup trucks. After the wheel chair is folded, the lift picks up the chair with an electric motor and stores it on the truck bed.

All carrier models are designed to withstand inclement weather though many sellers recommend covering your wheel chair to protect it from rain and snow.
